Mr. and Mrs. Qaraaq

My project continues  Showcasing some typical people/clothing/gear for the different cultures of my fictional FleKK world
I gave you Lathuril, now I give you Qaraaq ~





Okay TRICK QUESTION - Qaraaq is actually still in Lathuril BUT it is home to an entirely different culture, so there. 
Qaraaq is a semi-independent city state - that is, in terms of legislation and such they fall under the province of Lathuril, buuut on a day-to-day basis they pretty much take care of themselves... ...partially because they are located pretty far away from everything... except sand. Oh boy, do they have saaand ~  
Qaraaq is home to the human minority in Lathuril and is a vital trade city located right at the edge of the Lathurese Desert. A lot of merchants make their home here, not to mention the flocks of mercenaries (caravan guards) who follow the scent of money. Although that means a lot of shady characters pass through, Qaraaq is actually a very chill place. It probably has to do with the fact that once everyone actually gets here after crossing the desert they just want to... chill and recharge. 
Qaraaq has a reputation for being very open-minded, welcoming and overall just nice, so it's a place many people hope to visit... ..although only very few ever get the chance. 


Fashion style: Loose, comfortable and often uses burnt, earthy colours. The green headscarves actually come in all colours, although green has become rather iconic in its use. Piercings and tattoos are common, as is face-painting. Overall the style is very 'relaxed', which befits the Qaraaqi mindset perfectly. 
The creature in the background is used throughout the province - it's called a Lachmess. The fur on the necks is soft like llama/alpaca wool (depending on the lachmess type) and is harvested twice anually to make fabric. The Lachmess is not really a 'mount' but rather they are used as pack animals. They store fat in a hump on the back like a dromedary.

Very skilled traders - will cheat you blind if you don't watch it
Relaxed, laid-back and pleasant to be around... ...sometimes a bit too relaxed.
Open-minded and tolerant of strangers
The only good thing to come out of Lathuril
