So we near the end of this trek and I must say it surprised me in more ways than I had anticipated - for good and bad. Mostly good. 
I entered the trail as a friendship courtesy to Kaisa, as she needed a tagalong to be allowed to enter (..and because I walked into a trap. Sneaky). Despite some initial 'disagreements' during the Hungary phase (it got intense...), I'd say we've both benefitted from the ordeal. In fact, I'm somewhat surprised to find myself standing here so close to the finish line, still in one piece... I didn't think I had the making, honestly. This was pretty much the first time I've ventured outside a dressage arena on horseback for anything longer than a short trail ride. 
I'm pleasantly surprised at Sagadir too. I picked him for the final leg of the event not because he was my strongest card (I think Igni takes that cake), but because he was the only one I knew... or had the vague idea of 'knowing'. He was never a horse I really 'trusted' (I may be his rider, but he is very much ANDY's horse!), but the level of mutual dependence and trust we've learned to place in one another during this trek is tremendous. I'm sure we will both benefit from this experience when we return to the dressage arena for spring next season. I have applied for making the team for next year's Scandinavian Cup, and even though it feels like a long-shot at this point I will allow myself a bit of hope...

And then, of course, the biggest, most pleasant take-home message from TWD: following weeks upon weeks of ambiguous hints, unclear signals (and overcautious cowardice on my part, let's be honest) I am happy to announce that I managed to come to a pleasant conclusion with a certain Dutch dressage queen: I am now the unworthy boyfriend of Kaira van Leeuwen. This is a very saccharine statement from an Englishman, but I am, safe to say, 'walking on sunshine' these days. 
And just for once, I have nothing to complain about. I am hopeful for the future.
